Biography:
Dr. Heather Finlayson obtained a BSc from the University of Waterloo and attended medical school at McMaster University. She completed her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at UBC. She has subspecialty diplomas in Sport and Exercise Medicine, Electromyography (EMG), and Medical Education.
Dr. Finlayson is extensively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching. She has received awards for resident teaching and contributions to the UBC PM&R residency training program. She is a member of the national PM&R examination board for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She chairs the UBC Undergraduate Medical Program block on joint injuries.
She is an attending physician at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and also works in private practice. Her primary clinical interests are electrodiagnosis, musculoskeletal and sports medicine, and spasticity management for people with conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy. She is a board member of Canadian Advances in Neuro-Orthopedics for Spasticity Congress (CANOSC). Her research work includes studies of neuromuscular disorders, amputee rehabilitation, and spasticity management.
