Neurorehabilitation Clinical Fellowship Application Guideline

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) is offering qualified candidates a 12-month clinical fellowship in neurorehabilitation located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This comprehensive training experience will cover advanced clinical management of adults with stroke, brain injury, and neuromuscular conditions. Training will take place at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, a 65-bed tertiary adult rehabilitation centre in Vancouver, BC, with additional training in community clinic settings. The UBC Division of PMR has highly experienced and dedicated medical educators and clinical faculty members who will provide a positive learning experience.

This fellowship is established in collaboration between the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the UBC Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Successful candidates will require external Funding from sponsoring agency (i.e. University, Government agency, External agency) and not personal funding and agreement from sponsorship agency with UBC is required prior to commencing the fellowship program.

Applicant Criteria:

To qualify for this fellowship, the candidate must have:

  • Completed specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in a recognized/accredited training program
  • Minimum 12 months experience in practice as a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • The ability to successfully pass the English language requirement assessment from the College of Physician and Surgeons of British Columbia prior to the start of fellowship

  • Current curriculum vitae in English
  • Two letters of support/recommendation to the fellowship, with at least one letter from a practising physiatrist; both in English
  • A personal statement in English that includes answers to the following questions:
    • Why are you applying for this fellowship experience?
    • What makes you a suitable candidate for this program?
    • What outcomes do you hope to achieve at the end of this fellowship?
    • What is the anticipated impact of this fellowship on your future medical career?

Applications will be accepted until end of day on November 6, 2023. Select candidates will then be contacted for a virtual interview in mid November 2023. The successful candidate is anticipated to start the program within the first 6 months of 2024.
